Summer Science Internship Program

Experience conservation work in The Bahamas

The Bahamas National Trust hosts up to three science interns each summer for five weeks. This program is available to Bahamian students in college or university who are majoring in Biology, Marine Science, Environmental Science, or related fields, or to students who have recently graduated. During this internship, selected individuals will be given a chance to experience various aspects of working in the area of natural sciences in The Bahamas.

The BNT Summer Science Internship Program meets the requirements of the University of The Bahamas’ SIST 450: SIS Internship and may meet other internship requirements.

Interns will be able to:

  • identify 100 organisms found in The Bahamas
  • assist with collecting data in Bahamian national parks
  • gain hands-on experience with scientific equipment and software
  • meet different people in the conservation and environmental field
  • much more!

Students must be self-motivated, able to work alone and on a team, have an interest in the Bahamian environment, and have an open mind.

2024 Internship Conditions

We are looking for three (3) interns who are on the island of New Providence or able to relocate. Successful applicants should expect to learn about conservation in The Bahamas, including organism identification (class time) and hands-on experiences (field work). Opportunities for travel to Family Islands to assist with research MAY be available depending on funding and other factors.

The 2024 Summer Science Internship will run from June 3rd to July 5th. Dates, workload, and number of internship opportunities available are all subject to change, and preference will be given to applicants who have completed at least two years of tertiary education.
