The Bahamas National Trust is on a mission to discover two extraordinary young Bahamians, driven by a passion for storytelling, media, and the environment, to join our Conservation Storytelling and Media Internship Program. In this internship, you’ll step into the forefront of local conservation efforts, where you’ll witness, capture, and share the profound stories of our island’s natural heritage, rich biodiversity, and pressing conservation needs. Learning Opportunities and Activities

The Conservation Storytelling and Media Internship is designed to offer meaningful, hands-on experience in environmental storytelling, supported by mentorship, field experiences, and practical projects and activities. Throughout this journey, you’ll develop a diverse set of skills—from digital content creation to ecological awareness —preparing you for a future where you can make a difference in the world of environmental conservation. Over four (4) exciting months, you’ll:

Engage with Conservation Leaders:

Learn from and collaborate with leading conservationists on the frontlines of conserving and protecting The Bahamas’ natural resources. Gain real-world insights into the complexities of conservation work and what it takes to make a meaningful impact.

Explore The Natural Wonders of The Bahamas:

Discover the diverse ecosystems of The Bahamas through visits to remote national parks and unique natural areas. Experience the breathtaking beauty and unparalleled biodiversity of places visited by a few.

Enhance Your Professional Skillset:

 Acquire valuable skills in multimedia production, public engagement, creative storytelling, and ecological interpretation, preparing you for a future career in conservation, media, or both.

Create Impactful Content:

Create original work that will raise awareness about conservation efforts. You will have opportunities to showcase your projects on BNT’s platforms and beyond, reaching local and international audiences.

Dive into Marine Conservation:

For interested participants, gain an Open Water/Advanced Open Water Scuba Diving Certification, enabling you to explore The Bahamas underwater and get a closer look at marine conservation projects.

Desired Intern Skills and Requirements:

  • Interest and passion for environmental conservation
  • Proficiency in photography, videography, and content creation
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong desire for outdoor activities in the field
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
  • Experience with photo/video editing is a plus

Training and mentorship will be provided to further develop the selected intern’s skills.

Requirements and Expectations

  • Must be able to swim and comfortable in the water
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel domestically when required
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently and as part of a team
  • Office hours (where applicable), outdoor activities, and remote working

Anyone passionate about conservation! Whether you’re studying, recently graduated, or a young professional looking to pivot into environmental communications and media, we welcome your energy and perspective. Participants from select family islands are welcome to apply.

About The Bahamas National Trust

The Bahamas National Trust (BNT) was created by an Act of Parliament in 1959 to build and manage the national park system of The Bahamas. Possibly the only non-governmental organization in the world charged with such a responsibility, the BNT works daily to conserve and protect the natural resources of The Bahamas through park management, science, stewardship, and education for present and future generations. There are currently 33 National Parks managed by the BNT with more than 2 million acres of marine and terrestrial areas protected.
