The Bahamas National Trust (BNT) raised $150,000 in support of the San Salvador National Parks during its 2026 Pig Roast, held on May 2 at The Maillis Farm.

The event brought together corporate partners, donors, and supporters of conservation for an evening focused on advancing this year’s priority initiative, a two-year co-management effort supporting the San Salvador National Parks.

Delivered in partnership with San Salvador Living Jewels, the initiative focuses on strengthening the management and protection of five national parks on the island. These parks safeguard some of the island’s most important natural environments, including coastal wetlands, inland blue holes, and critical marine habitats that support seabird nesting sites, marine nurseries, and species found nowhere else in The Bahamas.

BNT Executive Director Lakeshia Anderson-Rolle said the event reflects the strength of ongoing support for conservation efforts across the country.

“Conservation at this level does not happen in isolation. It requires strong alliances, shared responsibility, and a community that believes in the work. The support we see through events like Pig Roast is a clear reflection of that,” she said.

Robert Sands, Senior Vice President of the Baha Mar Foundation, also highlighted the importance of continued investment in conservation.

“The beauty of islands like San Salvador is part of the soul of The Bahamas and protecting spaces like these matters deeply. We are proud to support an initiative that preserves important natural habitats while strengthening the connection between people, community, and the environment. Through our partnership with the Bahamas National Trust, we remain committed to protecting national parks that safeguard the country’s natural heritage,” he said.

Longstanding corporate partners and major donors played a key role in the success of this year’s event. Notable contributions and pledges included $75,000 from the Baha Mar Foundation, $20,000 from Sagoma Construction, $5,000 from Sandyport Development Company, and $5,000 from Bahamas Waste.  Donations from private donors took the initiative across the finish line to meet the evening’s goal of $150,000.00.

Pig Roast is BNT’s annual flagship fundraiser, each year supporting a different priority conservation project. In 2024, the event raised more than $160,000 for the initial development of Seahorse National Park in Eleuthera, while the 2025 event raised $130,000 toward the development of a welcome center at Bonefish Pond National Park.

Pig Roast 2026 was made possible through the generous support of its sponsors, including Baha Mar Foundation, Sagoma Construction, Atlantis Bahamas, Summit Development Company, Bahamas First, Simplified Lending, Nassau Paradise Island Promotions Board, Marlin Advisory, Apex Infrastructure Co. Ltd., Harbourside Marine Limited, Ernst & Young, New Providence Ecology Park, and Graham Thompson Attorneys. In-kind support was also provided by Bristol Wines & Spirits, Bahamian Brewery & Beverage, Caribbean Wines & Spirits, Bahamas Waste, and Expressions Entertainment.
