Seahorse National Park, located in North Eleuthera, protects the unique ecosystem of Sweetings Pond — a landlocked saltwater lagoon renowned for its high-density seahorse population — along with the surrounding terrestrial area, including the historic Hatchet Bay Cave. Designated in late 2023, the park preserves an exceptional blend terrestrial and marine systems, offering important opportunities for scientific study and sustainable nature-based tourism. The Bahamas National Trust’s current priorities include developing infrastructure to support visitation, conducting scientific monitoring on key species, and securing funding to ensure the long-term stewardship of this extraordinary landscape. Seahorse National Park is temporarily closed. Entry to Sweetings Pond is strictly prohibited.
