Summer Science Internship Programme

The Bahamas National Trust is looking for TWO (2) Bahamian students in college or university who are majoring in Biology, Environmental Science, or related fields for their second Summer Science Internship Programme, set to take place from May 22nd to June 29th. During this internship, selected individuals will be given a chance to experience various aspects of working in the area of natural sciences in The Bahamas. As a general layout the program will run as follows (may be subject to change):
- Week 1: Introduction to the Bahamas National Trust
- Week 2: Environmental Threats
- Week 3: Scientific Research
- Week 4: Social Science and Citizen Science
- Week 5: Spatial Data and Geographic Information Services (GIS)
- Week 6: Grant Writing and Project Proposals
Interns will also be expected to learn 100 organisms (plants and animals) during the duration of the programme. Organisms include both plants and animals found in natural Bahamian environments, and will cover endemic and invasive species. Interns will learn how to recognize and identify these organisms in the field. Exciting field trips to all four of the National Parks on New Providence are also in store, as well as research opportunities, and possible travel to family islands.
We are looking for students who are self-motivated, able to work alone and on a team, have an interest in the Bahamian environment, and have an open mind.
